Reinstatement cost assessment & capital estimation
I establish what it costs to rebuild industrial process assets — for insurance placement and sum-insured declarations. Upstream and downstream oil and gas, petrochemicals and fertiliser, and power generation from thermal to renewable.
This site is where I write about how that work is actually done: what a document set will and won't tell you, how quantities get built up, and where declared values drift from current cost.

Position
- Rebuild cost is built up from quantities. Indexing historic capex forward is a different exercise, and it gives a different answer.
- Almost everything that drives the cost is confirmable from the document set. The constraint is obtaining it, not reaching the site.
- A declared value that has not been tested against current cost is an assumption with a number attached to it.
